2003-8-12---Diamond Head hike:

Another activity that should be done on Oahu is hiking up Diamond Head!

The trail to the summit of Diamond Head was built in 1908 as part of O‘ahu’s coastal defense system.

The 0.8 mile hike from trailhead to the summit is steep and strenuous, gaining 560 feet as it ascends from the crater floor.
good view of the caldera from here.

The walk is a glimpse into the geological and military history of Diamond Head.
 Definitely not ADA accessible.
The view from the top is stunning!

 Looking over the caldera again.
 We made it!
the navigational lighthouse looks tiny from here.
 Heading back down
a lighted 225-foot tunnel leads to the Fire Control Station completed in 1911
 map of the full hike
So glad we did this.  I know Ken would never do it.  But it was so worth it!
