2010-3-1 Kids arrive and off to Poipu:
Today is the day the "kids" fly over from the Big Island. So we hung around the East side waiting for their arrival. I killed a little time by wandering around by our resort.
The water here may not be swimmable, but it is a pretty beach. Especially when the sun is shining.
Looking towards the building we're in this trip.
Ken on our Lanai. We're on the 3rd floor, thus the fantastic views from our room.
Once the kids arrived, they were ready to do some snorkeling and beach time. So we headed South.
After a little time at Lawai, we headed to Poipu.
heading in
milletseed butterflyfish
moorish idol
christmas wrasse
a sea cucumber ejecting something. In fact there was a bunch of them all doing the same thing---mass fertilization of eggs? I've never happened upon this before.
a couple ring tail surgeonfish
We even shared the beach with a monk seal
the tombula
shared the beach with a large sea turtle, too
Eventually we all got hungry. They wanted to try Puka Dogs, so that's where we went. They really are an interesting sausage dog---with some interesting relishes. We enjoyed our meals.
Then headed back to Lawai for sunset.
Again it wasn't spectacular, but just being there was great.
Back at the condo, we all settled in and we listened to their exploits on the Big Island. Sounds like they had a really good time in the B and B they were in by the volcano. They got to see a very different Hawaii from the island of Kauai.
