March 1, 2013: Snorkeling Ahini Cove and dinner at Mama's Fish House---
What
can I say! I'm beginning to sound like a broken record!---Another
fantastic day! Sue and Bill were up early again and took their morning
walk. Even brought us cinnamon rolls for breakfast---which we ate out
on the lanai again. It was another sunny day with beautiful blue skies
and a few white puffy clouds. We ate and visited until about 9am, then
decided it was time to head out to the beach. We decided on Ahihi.
It's much more challenging then Kahalua (shallower coral and rocky
entrance point), but Sue and Bill proved yesterday that they can handle
the ocean. They were flying all over the bay. We enjoyed another
couple hours of snorkeling!
As
we were walking from our parking spot to the entry area, we got a kick
out of this guy and his shades going past us in the back of a pick up
truck!
We also got a kick out of this fella reminding us to not feed the fish.Again, doesn't look like much, but it's a fantastic snorkel area! Wasn't nearly as crowded today as it was last time we were here, either.
Orangebar surgeonfish
bullethead parrotfish
school of fishies
peacock grouper--without the stripes on the back half
bluefin trevelly
white spine surgeonfish (haven't seen these guys on Kauai)
schools of fish
dark barred filefish traveling with the light one (male and female?)
another of our turtle friendsKen and me
When we had enough snorkeling, we headed to the end of the road. Never heard of "spinner dolphin resting areas"!
Lots of lava rock by the part of Ahihi that was closed to snorkeling.
Here I found the house I want to own someday! Would love to have this for my back yard!!! Note to self---go buy a lottery ticket!
Our lovely group.
On the way back to town, we decided to stop for a frozen chocolate covered banana. I suggest sharing them, they are large! But it was quite good!
It was time to grab a "lite" lunch, so we went to 808 Deli (very good sandwiches!). Took our sandwiches and headed to the grassy area by the beach by our condo and had a picnic.
Dining with a view!
OK---what is a "sheep drop"?
View from our spot on the grass.
Well fed, now time for a nap!
Another view of the Kameole beach.
As was our welcoming tiki guy.
View of the ocean from one of the viewpoints. Even saw a whale breeching.
Love the walkwaysheading down from the complimentory valet parking to the restaurant grounds.
The interesting open air restaurant.

About 6:30 we decided to head in to check in for our 7 pm reservations. Loved the tropical flower arrangements they have.

some bar treats.
love the lighting inside the restaurant, too.
Loved my pina colada, too!
view into part of the restaurant.
I ordered ---Kampachi with caramelized Maui onion, Haiku golden tomato and forbidden black rice From blue waters off Keahole Point near Kona. (loved their plates, too)
Ken ordered a roast pork and prawn dinner. Bill ordered the same thing I did and Sue had the mahi mahi stuffed with lobster and crab. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and service was impecable. Not cheap at about $50 each/entree, but great atmosphere and company---plus they treated us!
We even indulged with shared desserts---black pearl (a chocolate mouse with lilikoi sauce in a pastry)
and a banana crisp. Both desserts were also excellent.
just a bit more of the restaurant.
A parting view as were were heading out.
What a great way to end another day!---great food, great company!!!
