Today we decided to get some breakfast before heading out to snorkel. Decided to try the little café we saw near the Post Office---Home Maid Cafe. The food was pretty basic: eggs, bacon, spam (which I got, we actually like Spam), hash brown, toast, pancakes. I was hoping for some mac nut pancakes, but they didn't show that on the menu, just pancakes. Service was slow, but it was cheap and good. It was also nice sitting outside watching the world go by.
Even saw this guy while waiting for breakfast. Get so use to seeing them on Kauai---sort of miss them on Maui.
After breakfast, we headed to a dive shop and bought me a pair of booties/socks to wear with my fins (mainly to make walking on rocks not hurt so much!). Then we changed into our swimsuits and took off to The Dumps again.
Just a view from the south side as we rode along. I love all the colorful Bougainvillea.
Along the trail to the Dumps. (Acacia Koa)
These were along the trail, too. Very interesting flower! They looked like this when we got there, then were all closed up with drooping filaments when we left. (Caper Bush---apparently they open at night and usually close by noon.)
On to snorkeling the Dumps. We headed left this time. Didn't explore that yesterday.
Scrawled Filefish. There were actually 3 of them swimming together.
I thought these were light colored Black Triggerfish, but they sure were a lot lighter then the black ones.
A school of the light blue "Black"? Triggerfish (with a couple darker ones amongst them)---which I'm renaming the slabeaume Triggerfish since I've never seen them that color before and Keoki's website doesn't show any that light. This happened to be a cleaning station.
A turtle in the vast coral reef.
barred filefish
another view of some of the coral
Hybrid Achilles and Whitecheek Surgeonfish---I think this is the first one of them I've gotten a picture of. I believe I have a Whitecheek Surgeonfish posted from Kapalua or MM14---the hybrid has a different colored tail then the Whitecheek.
School of convict tangs and assorted other fish---including the long tube-like coronet fish.
More views of the reef
Hawaiian Sergeant---this guy protects "his" nest.
Trumpetfish colored like none I've ever seen before and a Threadfin Butterflyfish.
Pebbled Butterflyfish
A much smaller eel then yesterday's.
We managed to spend another 2 or 3 hours out there, then sat on the rocks and watched the many whales. None were breeching, but there were several spouting and surfacing.
Walking back out, I thought these pod things were interesting.
There were also a lot of these pretty wild flowers. (Periwinkle?)
Just
another picture while riding back to the resort. Sort of makes me want
to take up golfing. My problem with that, though, is once the ball is
hit into the sky, I can't see it anymore. Of course I'd have to hit it
into the sky to have to worry about that!Back at our resort, we were visited by Elvis---also known as Darren Lee, who stars as Elvis in "Burn'n Love" which is playing at the Maui Theatre in Lahaina. He was very good. Would like to go to his show, but hubby would probably fall asleep and his snoring during the show would embarrass me. He seemed like a very personable fellow and performed for about 30 minutes. Tues. is bar b q night at the resort. We've never been around for it, but since we were there, we went ahead and paid the $7 for a cheeseburger (or dog), potato/mac, potato chips, lettuce, tomatoes, and a can of Aloha drink. They were even large burgers and dogs (must be from Costco). After that we went back to the room and changed for sunset.
Went to Kam2 tonight and watched the sunset.
Day after tomorrow and we have to go home! At least it's a red eye, but time has really gone by too quickly again! Guess there will be no Lanai trip---that was #1 on my list this year, but surf conditions didn't cooperate. Maybe next time.
