Feb.26,2015--Depression setting in! Time to go home:
Our
flight isn't until 11pm tonight, so I booked our resort room for
tonight, too. So here we are---5pm hanging out at the resort! But we
did get out for awhile. Breakfast at the Cinnamon Bun place. They,
too, have great breakfasts sandwiches and rolls very reasonably.
Then
we took one last ride south. The site we check for surf and water
clarity said poor visibility today. After yesterday, I believed them.
So no snorkeling today, either.
Love
all the coconut and food trucks along the way. Didn't stop this year.
2 years ago we got frozen chocolate covered bananas at one of them.
You can get all kinds of stuff at them. But they aren't cheap.
Stopped at Big Beach for a couple pictures.
The huge cactus plants are still down there.
We
stopped by the side of the road at a beach access walkway and I was
surprised to find such a beautiful area. Have no idea what it is, but
it looks like snorkeling would be great here under the right
conditions. In fact, the water didn't look as churned up as I
expected. I really wanted to get out in the water somewhere, but Ken
didn't.

looking towards the mountain from the lava field road.
the highway over the lava field.
another beautiful view of the south shores.
Leaving Wailea.
Back at the resort, I made some fragrant whale soaps for friends and family back home. Then hung out at the pool and resort.
hopefully we'll see a beautiful sunset tonight. Then be off to the airport tonight around 8:30.
I walked across the street from Worldmark to Kam 1 for my last sunset.
There was a little color in the sky, but not many clouds to hold it. Still pretty, though.
We
made it to the airport plenty early, again. They tried to charge us
for our luggage. I argued that AA told us they had an agreement with
Alaska Airlines and even Alaska Airlines confirmed that over the phone
earlier in the day. Eventually they agreed to let us each have 1 bag
free, so we took the 3rd one as carry on (ended up checking it in
Seattle when they asked for volunteers to check their carry on). Plan
to call AA and ask about that agreement with Alaska Air one of these
days. The rest of the trip went pretty well. The planes were all
full. We flew from OGG-PDX---a new itinerary for us. Nice not having
to hang out in the LAX or DFW airport for a change. I rented their
entertainment tablet for $10 and it was a nice feature that we don't
have on AA. Ended up watching Dolphin Tale 2 and Fury during our first
flight. Soon after that we were landing in Portland. 3 hours later we
took a puddle jumper to Seattle where we waited another 1 1/2 hours for
our flight to STL. Got in to STL about 5:30pm and home about 6:30.
What
was I saying earlier about dreading going back to where everything is
brown? I didn't consider this alternative! I think I like it even
less!
