Anahola:

This is another East or NE beach, but we had never snorkeled here until our 12th trip to Kauai.  According to The Guidebook, it's a locals beach.  We were afraid we wouldn't be welcomed.  But we finally decided to go there one day during the week and see what kind of "vibe" we got.  We talked to the lifeguard for awhile and were made to feel very welcome.  Then we went to the beach and found a couple very friendly families there.   So we stayed and enjoyed another beautiful Kauai beach.
I love the views of the Kalalea Mountains here!

It is a well protected bay, too.
and quite shallow
looking towards the right.
even the chickens enjoy the beach.
There is suppose to be surfing, body boarding and diving here, too, but it would have to be past the breakers.
There are also pic nic tables and lots of camping, especially in the summer.
But if this is the area that you're suppose to snorkel, we didn't find it too good.  It was very shallow and rocky, with little - no coral.  But we loved the scenery, so spent hours here anyway.  We did see some fish, mostly juveniles, but not as many as at most places around Kauai.  Here are some of what we saw here:
another Moorish Idol---they're all over Kauai
 4 spot butterflyfish
sergeant major
Christmas wrasse and goat fish in the back ground.
lots of sea cucumbers.
and sea slugs

juvenile damselfish on a rare piece of coral.
lots of empty shells---clue that an octopus might be nearby.
And there was!

 school of tiny silver fish
young belted wrasse
 ambon toby
 another sea hare
milletseed butterflyfish
male box fish
