2006-Feb. 8---Kukuiolono golf course:

Time to eat some of the market finds from yesterday---star fruit, rombutans, apple bananas, coconut.
Never had a rombuton before.  Interesting fruit!  Not the easiest to eat, but tasty.  Their flavor reminded us of grapes.
Then when you're done with the fruit, you have a toy to play with!
 a studly golf ball.
Speaking of golf --- the kids decided they wanted to go golfing, but they wanted to do it cheaply.  So we headed to Kukuiolono golf course on the West side.   While they waited for their turn, they hit the golf driving range.

 and the putting green.
 Looking out over the course.
they had a little more of a wait, so we sat inside and gaze out.
The "club house".  The 9-hole Kukuiolono Golf Course in Kalaheo, HI is a semi-private golf course that opened in 1928.
Course fees were something like $7.  Ken and I aren't golfers, but we got to walk along with them.
Certainly an interesting course.  The lanes are wider, which is good for the not as experienced golfers.

Nice way to get a walk in and visit.  I can see why people take up golfing.  Too bad I can't see the ball!

They were paired up with another couple.  The course is so busy that they asked if they would share the course.
Tim and Faith didn't rent a cart, but they did rent a club caddy for something like $1@.
Ken even acted as a caddy for Faith.
fountain and garden in the middle of the course.
Maybe if I lived here I'd take up golfing here.

One of the more challenging tees.
 walking around the trench.

 What form!
In the middle of the course is a tomb.  The owner left instructions for the course to remain public and cheap and asked that people stopped and said hi as they went by.

Heading back up towards the club house.
 getting artsie
When they were done, it was time for lunch/dinner.  Time to check out the only brewery on Kauai.  Love the lilikoi beer.  The food isn't bad either.  Another place we frequent whenever we're on Kauai.
Heading back towards Poipu.  Love all the flowering vines.
We decided to head to Shipwreck Rock
Walked up to the top and looked around.
looking down on the super clear water.  I can't imagine jumping from the top, but we see people do that.  It looks deceivingly shallow.
 Looking towards the Hyatt.
 Ken finding treasures.
More of the trail at the top.
BAck on the beach we waited for sunset.
Glad they seem to be having fun.
 someone else having fun.

Not the greatest of sunsets, but certainly not the worst!
 Enjoying another beautiful evening.
 Faith playing in the sand.
 one of her creations
They even tried to keep the sun from setting!
It almost worked, but they got tired of holding the sun up.
Another beautiful day in paradise!  Wish we could stay here!
