2007 March 3---East side and a Sheraton sunset:
Time to spend a little more time on the East side. That's one of the things I love about Kauai----no matter what side of the island you're on, it's beautiful. Even though they're each beautiful in very different ways: The lush North shore; The rugged West side; the drier and South side; and the residential comfortable East side.
Time to check on the status of the Lydgate cleanup.
Still a lot to do. We've heard they don't have much money to do clean up. So it gets spread out over a longer period of time.
at the end of the street from Lydgate. There's actually Hikinaakala Heiau. The Hawaiians use to go here to pray to the sun.
A permanent market here on Kauai is this large one in Kapaa. It's not open every day, but it is open several days a week. Lots of cloth goods as well as photos and other souvenir type items.
Also in Kapaa is this skate board park. I had just taken a bunch of pictures of a few skate board parks back home, so I was anxious to see how they compared to one here. This one is considerably smaller, but more colorful and it looked like the kids enjoyed it just as much as the kids did at the ones back home.
Heading along the Kapaa bypass. This is where you can really enjoy more of the country beauty of the East side.
There are hikes here on the East side, too, like a couple that take you up this mountain---Sleeping Giant. We did it once. I still have a hard time seeing the Giant here.
I think this is suppose to be the Giant's head.
In Lihue there's a museum. We've only been here once, too, but it was interesting.
Later in the afternoon we headed South to wait for sunset. Again I had to take a picture of one of my favorite views while heading south.
We decided to check out the Sheraton area. It's at the far end of Poipu beach.
The Sheraton side of the bay where Poipu beach is.
a catamaran tour as seen from shore.
Sure wouldn't mind having this house!
Another catamaran boat. They're probably out waiting for sunset.
Turned out to be a pretty good spot for sunset. Lots of palm trees for the foreground.
the sunset catamaran again.
We were treated to the "green flash" again!
Not many clouds to light up after sunset, but the rocks made for an interesting photo.
