 2011-Feb. 14: Waimea Canyon

The day started out promising. We were able to see some blue skies. I even took a walk down the beach by our KBV resort. We headed to the farmer's market in Koloa in the early afternoon. Got my $5 worth of tropical flowers and my only fixin' of apple bananas. It was another cloudy, voggy day. We elected not to go snorkeling. Instead, we headed up the canyon. In hindesight, not the best of ideas with all the vog in the air. The vog created such a haze that the canyon view wasn't the greatest. I felt sorry for those who were there seeing it for the first time. What a difference it makes when it's clear! At least it was a warm day, even at the top.

A picture of the canyon on a clear day from 2001.

Along one of the pull outs, I spotted this spotted plant (kalanchoe tubiflora-as noted by a commenter of my blog). Never seen anything like it before. It's always neat to see new sights, whether they be fish, birds, or strange looking plants.
Also came across this waterfall along the side of the road. I don't remember seeing it before. Maybe we had never been up there after so much rain.

We drove all the way to the Kalalau Lookout and wandered around there for awhile. It's interesting watching the constantly moving clouds.

We were going to have dinner at the Waimea Brewery, but due to it being Valentine's Day, they only offered 2 dinners on their menu and charged $40@. So we skipped it and headed back. With the clouds building and knowing there would be no sunset, we continued on to the east side. Stopped at Costco and got a couple Caesar salads from their snack bar and went back to the condo where we had salad and leftovers from the BullShed.
