2011-Feb. 20: Lawai
Today was a real gully washer day most of the day. It started
out just overcast, but rained all afternoon/evening. I had heard about a
"Dinosaur" volleyball tournie, so we went to check it out at Kalapaki
BAy in the morning. The ages of the men on the 2-man teams had to equal
80 years old or more and the women's 2 person teams' ages had to equal
70 years old or more. As an avid volleyball player, I enjoyed watching
them, although they were far from being "dinosaurs!" I did take some
pictures and put them on the Dinosaur facebook page. We even chatted
with one of the players for quite awhile (Kalani Vierra). In the
conversation, it came up that he is also a Kauai fireman, lifeguard, and
world champion tandem surfer. We mentioned we watched and took pictures
of a tandem surfing team a few years ago at Lawai. It turned out it was
him and his partner practising.

Since
sunset was out of the question, we stuck around the east side. Even
went to another happy hour restuarant in the same shopping center as the
Lihue Kalapaki Joe's. I forget the name of it now, but it advertised
$.99 beers and happy hour dinner specials. The dinner special was fish
and chips and it was very good, unfortunately Ken had to order something
else since they ran out of fish with my meal. Good thing we got there
early!
Back at the condo, we watched a spectacular lightening show until just after midnight.
