1-23-19 hanging around the North side

Started the day out just sitting on our patio.
Had our breakfast out there---like usual.
While we were enjoying our patio, there was a knock on the door --- the exterminators were there.  I had forgotten they were coming this morning.  So Carolyn and I quickly gathered some stuff and headed out---but to where?
Ended up riding towards Princeville resort.  Thought she would get a kick out of seeing it.  We even happened upon a parking spot in the little lot by the Hideaway's beach path.  I'd always been curious about that beach, but never found parking, so we decided to take the path a little ways and see what we could see.
saw this cute little guy.
 and a well used path
and some great views
especially this one!
I love any view with the Bali hai mountains in it.
Could even see a hint of what I presume is Hideaways.
I went down the steps to see if there was a better view, but stopped when the steps ended and there were just ropes.
heading back up
admiring some of the flora as we made our way back out

then we continued walking to the Princeville resort.
orchids in their landscaping.

beautiful entryway
checking out the bar area by the entrance
beautiful lounging area

The bar wasn't opened, but we noticed the doors to the patio were open, so we went to check it out.  What a view!
It was a bit hazy---vog?  Without the trade winds, it's usually a bit voggy.
looking down towards the beach by the resort.
We took the elevators down to the beach and wandered around a bit.  This is looking back on the resort.
Snapchat to the kids!

They certainly have a beautiful pool.  Can't imagine staying here and not using this pool, but it was pretty empty.
more landscaping around the pool
on our way back out, we checked out the fine jewelry display.  It's only about $1,200!  Valentine's day is coming Ken!!!!
Another view of the bar area and the view beyond
looking back from the entrance
really pretty and simple live floral arrangement.
Back outside
love all the hibiscus

We walked up to the lawn area across from the hotel to check out the view there.  Was surprised to see this wasn't a covered picnic area, but was an area of placards explaining how Princeville got it's name and how it was once owned by a Russian-American.  This site was actually the site of a Russian fort before they were chased away.  I knew there was a Russian fort on the South side, but didn't know there had been one here, too.
We walked along the border of the property admiring the views.
Love these flowering trees!  First time I got this close of a view of the flowers.
another view of Bali Hai.
back to the flowers
love all the wild flowers everywhere.

even growing on tree trunks
and other weird flora
walking back to the car.
love the bike bag
then we decided to go in search of a late lunch.  Tried to go to Hideaways pizza place, but found out they don't open until 5, so continued on.  Ended up in Kilauea.  Decided to drive to the overlook by the lighthouse.
blue footed boobies flying around.
the lighthouse
I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't see the shoreline anymore.  Use to be able to see the shore of the whole little bay
some of the birds that like to hang out here.
Then we went to the Kong Lung market center and got a piece of pizza and salad from Kilauea Bakery and Pizza.  Very good and reasonably priced at about $11, plus water was free.
a couple love birds hanging out by the restaurant
awww

there are lots of historical informational placards around here, too.
small but cute little market center.
as I recall, this use to be a candle/soap shop.  Now it's surf wear.  Wonder when it changed?
heading out and admiring some of the landscaping.

Back at the Shearwater, I checked out the views of Anini from our resort.
love that view of Anini.
and the clouds were pretty spectacular today
the surf was really pounding today and could really be heard way up here on the cliffs of Princeville.
looking across the property of The Shearwater.
one last view of Anini, with the lighthouse way off in the distance.
the clubhouse to The Shearwater.
foliage around the place.
Then we spent a couple hours at the pool and Jacuzzi.  The pool was a nippy 68ish!  But it still felt good---as did the Jacuzzi afterwards!
We hung around the resort to see what sunset would bring.  When it was about time for sunset, I took another walk along the resort.
not too much color tonight.  The clouds were really thick to the West, but there was more color than I expected.
looking West.
I walked past the Shearwater to the property at the end of the roadway (Sealodge, I think) and found this public path to the beach!  Didn't walk it now, but may have to check it out some other time.
didn't look like there was a place to view West from the roadway, so I headed back to Shearwater.
a little more color to the East
our pool area
this little guy was singing away.  Another white rumped Shama I think.  It has a beautiful song!  He performed for quite awhile.
He even gave a close up appearance.
back to our room along the nicely landscaped walkway
Since it was Wednesday, we went back to Kalypso for the Wednesday all night happy hour.
even had the Kona brew lilikoi blend.  Not an IPA, which are my favorite beers, but not bad.
and we shared a nachos.  It was very yummy and very big!
Thus ended another beautiful day in paradise!
