1-25-19  Back to the East side

Well, the cold front has reached us!  Only about 68 this morning!  Along with lots of clouds and rain.  But we still had our breakfast (english muffin toast today) out on the patio and watched the rain.
Today and Sat. nights I have reservations back at Kauai Beach Villas again, so we packed up and by 11 or so, we decided to head that way.  I had hoped to snorkel today at Anini or Lydgate while we waited for 4pm when we could check in.  But it didn't look like that was going to happen.
We did ride by Anini.  Actually saw a little sunshine there, but the water was really choppy.
Looks like it rained quite a bit here, too.
much rougher today then a couple days ago.
Continued on---first to the post office in Anahola.  Carolyn's phone is on it's way back to somewhere in Tennessee.  Never to be seen by her again!  (On a side note, I found out if you accidentally run over a baby chick, the mother will eat it!)  (Actually, the haunted phone did make it back to her---a few months later!  It said it was not claimed, but her credit card company had already refunded her money.  So I guess it'll stay around to haunt her)
I was hoping it wouldn't be as rainy on the East side, but it was.  In fact, the East side was a MESS.   Hit traffic before Kealia Beach and didn't get out of it until we turned off at Kauai Beach Villas (except for a short detour to Burger King).
Hadn't had Burger King in years!  the Whopper Jr. seems to be a lot smaller then I remembered!!!
I've never seen the traffic like this on Kauai before!  The gal at the check in office said there was a 3 car accident by the KBV turn off, but it must have just been cleared when we got there---even though the traffic was still bumper to bumper there.
Finally into the tree tunnel of KBR.
It was about 3:30 now and still too early to check in, so we headed into Lihue.  Back to the Hawaiian stitchery store near Lihue.  Love this stocking!  If they had the kit, I might have gotten it.  So a picture will have to do and maybe I'll get energetic enough to make it from scratch one of these days.
While we were there they called to say our room was ready, so back we went to check in and haul our "weekender" bags in.
Then took off again.  Planned to go to Hanapepe for the Art night and try to find some dry weather.  But that didn't work.  Hit bumper - bumper traffic in Lihue and finally gave up and turned around by Gaylords.  Our reward for turning around was this brilliant double rainbow!  Heard later there was a fatal accident near the tree tunnel which backed up traffic for hours.
Jack in the Box!!!!!!!!  The best addition to Kauai since we've been coming here!  My favorite fast food place.  But they don't have them where we've moved to since we left St. Louis.  Mango smoothies!!  Their greasy fried tacos!!!  Breakfast Jacks!!!!
But for now it was time to look for real food.  So we decided to go to Kauai Pasta.  Service was great.  Food was pretty good (hard to compete with Italian restaurants in St. Louis!).
inside Kauai Pasta
I got the macnut pesto and chicken parmesian.  The chicken was really good, the pasta was so-so.
Then we headed back to KBV.  I saw a little pink in the sky, so I headed to the beach.
Lots of debris on the beach.

 or someone's treasures.
 Japanese float?
the color didn't materialize in the cloud covered skies.
So I decided to go a different route and play with shutter speed.
Kind of hard to do without a tripod!

I wasn't the only one enjoying the cloudy dull sunset
Even this guy was out and about.
back to playing with slow shutter speed.

 One more.
Another weird day on Kauai.  Stuck in traffic---at least it's still better then being stuck in traffic in Atlanta!  Cool and rainy---at least that's better then cold and snowy.  Still a good day to be on Kauai.
