2018-2-9 Snorkeling Makena Landing

We headed South to snorkel today.  Although it looked rougher then I expected it to be.  We stopped at Wailea Beach first.  It may not look like it here, but it would have been rough for snorkeling.
so we headed farther South.  Ended up at Makena landing.  I was surprised how calm it was.  I guess it's because the wind was blowing from the NE.
As soon as we enter, this guy almost ran us over.
some of the shoreline from the water.

Ken pointed out the 2 turtles on shore.  A short while later there were 3 on shore.

back on the road.  Love the views of Haleakala from the South side.
Then we drove to the end of Makena Rd.  I jumped out to see what the ocean looked like here while Ken turned the car around.

a whale watching tour, I presume?  We really haven't seen many breaches this year.  Lots of spouts, but not much else.
looking towards Oneuli.
Yea!  A breaching whale!
One of the pretty little churches in Kihei.
So I can remember 10 years from now how much we paid for gas this year---actually we paid $3.20 at Costco, but this was the average cost at the other gas stations.
Today is National Pizza Day.  Round Table offered a free personal pan pizza with the purchase of a drink, so we went there for a late lunch, early dinner.
Then we ran over to Kuhului for gas and to pick up a few items from Walmart.  There we were blessed with a rainbow---one of only a couple we've seen this trip.
Views of the West mountains from Costco.
the mountains as we headed back to Kihei.
Decided to stop at the beach near the cut off to Lahaina.  There we sat and waited for the sunset.

looking towards Maalaea marina.
I can't believe I live in a place where there are no palm trees!

Not sure what beach this is---Sugar Beach?  Or just North of Sugar Beach?
not a bad place to watch the sunset!
again we had a fast not very colorful sunset.
Heading South to Kihei
Another day with some more great snorkeling.  Unfortunately Ken seems to have caught something.  He ended up going to bed about 8pm.  Hope he's doing better tomorrow!
